The Hustling Hippos had a great game. Hard played game with a great day at offense lead by Caleb Salazar with three touchdowns and one by Jayden James. It was a close game but in the end a great defensive stance lead by line backer Matthew Medrano with several flag pulls for a lose of gain on Manor’s last drive to seal the win. Great Job! – Coach Isreal Medrano

PeeWee Tackle Division

Hustling Hippos 20 vs. SAO Scorpions 22

Hutto’s Hustling Hippo’s Pee Wee Tackle Football team had their first home game here at Old Hippo Stadium this past Saturday Morning. The Hustling Hippo’s took the opening drive all the way to the end zone and totally controlled the first half of the game by a score of 13-7.

Coming out strong in the second half, the Hustling Hippo’s added another 7 points to the score in the third quarter bringing the game to 20-7, but the South Austin team wouldn’t go away.

South Austin shut down the Hustling Hippo’s towards the end of the third quarter and added another 8 points (converting a two point conversion) making the score 20-15.

Despite all the efforts by the Hustling Hippo’s to keep South Austin out of the end zone, the South Austin Team was able to reach the end zone one more time with 3:30 left in the fourth quarter.

The extra point attempt was successful leaving the final score 20-22 in the favor of South Austin. It was a great day in football despite the loss and the young Hustling Hippo’s left everything they had on the field. – Coach Cory Mayer

Fighting Hippos 20 vs. Lampasas Badgers 0

The Fighting Hippos took on the Lampasas Blue Badgers. “We struggled the first half, but came out strong in the second.”  With strong play by Jim May on both sides of the ball and key runs by Brody Bujnoch and Kenny Settles, the Hippos fought for the win.

“We had good blocking from our O-line with Richard Ridings taking on a strong rusher and our defense played really well.

Little Luke Adams was hard on their offensive line, he kept disrupting their backfield in the second half.” – Coach Kenny Settles

Rookie Division

Hutto Hippos 6 vs. Kyle Invaders 40

The Fighting Hippos traveled to Kyle and ran into a strong Invaders team. The kids played hard and managed to put up 6 points but the fast Invader offense was too much for the valiant Hippos to handle.

Junior Division

Hustling Hippos 0 vs. Hill Country Cowboys 32

Started out the game a little slow and did not get going until second half. We were just did not have enough time to cover the deficit. Joshua Gonzales was the games bright spot catching 3  passes and numerous tackles on defense.  – Coach Rodrick James

The Fighting Hippos 26 vs. Kyle Invaders 14

The Fighting Hippos won their second game of the year in Kyle on Saturday. Jordan Phoenix started the scoring with a long run for the first score of the game.

Other Hippos that scored were Brock Bujnoch who scored two rushing touchdowns and completed passes to Jason Vogelpohl and McKadein Ringer on extra point conversions, and McKadein Ringer also had a touchdown on a kick-off return.

The under-sized Fighting Hippo defense performed admirably against a much larger Invader offense. Jayden Leon had an interception in the first half of play that helped to set up the second Hippo touchdown. – Coach Dean Bujnoch

Senior Division

Hustling Hippos 41 vs. Georgetown Patriots 20

The Senior Hustling Hippos defeated the Georgetown Patriots on Saturday 41-20.  This was a hard fought game, and team showed they have the heart of a champion.  Several times the Hippos got behind, but never gave up, and took control of the game in the 4th quarter.  Once again the team represented Hutto proudly with a never quit mentality, and unmatched determination. – Coach Mike Ackerman

Fighting Hippos 26 vs. Burnet Bulldogs 0

The offense did an exceptional job in blocking their assignment and continue to improve. Valerio continues to lead the way by scoring 20pts. Devion Wilson had a nice run for a touchdown, but unfortunately was called back due to penalties.

The defense did a good job in shutting down the Bulldogs offense by not allowing them to score. Valerio had an interception and ran it back for a touchdown. Also in the mix was Trey Settles having an interception and Brandon Lancaster getting a fumble recovery. Overall the Fighting Hippos had a very good game and continue to get better. – Coach Victor Barron
