The Hutto volleyball team looks unstoppable through five games of district play. The Lady Hippos are ranked sixth in the state by the Texas Girls Coaching Association and are 5-0 in district play. Outside of the undefeated record, the Lady Hippos have not lest a set in district play and are 30-4 on the season.
“The team really picked up defensively to offset their lack of offensive power,” Hutto head coach Janiece Nelson. “They are focusing on limiting their mistakes and waiting for the opponents to make the mistake, thus giving us the point.
“When someone has an off night, the others are ready to step in and make up the difference.”
This past week, Hutto went 2-0, knocking off Pflugerville Connally in straight sets Sept. 18 before beating Cedar Creek in straight sets Friday.
Hutto won the Connally game 25-21, 25-19, 25-16 behind 12 kills by Audriana Carson and seven aces by Emily Lambeth. Shelby Romero had 31 assists and Lambeth added 17 digs to go along with two blocks by Madison Arsenault.
The Lady Hippos returned to the court Friday in a 25-13, 25-8, 25-8 victory over Cedar Creek.
Carson had a team-high nine kills, while Romero led the team in assists and aces. Makayla Allen tied Romero with a team-high four aces. Arsenault had two blocks, while Lambeth had seven digs.
