Hutto ISD has trimmed more than $5.5 million from its budget in the last two years. Trustees have called a Sept. 1 Tax Ratification Election to raise the cap on the M&O tax rate. A homeowner with an average priced home in the district, will pay about $133.66 more in taxes if the new rate is approved. The school district has said, if further state cuts are made and taxes remain at the current rate, it likely will have to charge students $200 per semester for bus transportation in addition to a $100 per student (per year) fee for extracurricular activities.
