Olympic champ, U.T. grad to headline Hutto EDC banquet

HUTTO — Three-time Olympian and U.S.A. Men’s Swim Team Captain Brendan Hansen will headline the Hutto Economic Deveolpment Corporation’s Year in Review banquet.

Fresh from a comeback performance at the London Summer Olympics, six-time Olympic medalist Brendan Hansen will be the featured speaker at the HEDC Year-In-Review Banquet to be held at the Star Ranch Golf Club in Hutto on Oct. 25.

Hansen has won three gold, one silver and two bronze Olympic medals, and also is a former world record holder in both the 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke (long course).

While attending the University of Texas at Austin, Hansen swam for coach Eddie Reese’s Texas Longhorns swimming and diving team in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competition from 2001 to 2005. During his time as a Longhorn swimmer, he never lost a breaststroke event. He was a 16-time All-American and won 14 NCAA national championships. He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2005.

Over his career, Hanson has won a total of 25 medals in major international competition, 18 gold, four silver, and three bronze spanning the Olympics, the World, and the Pan Pacific Championships. He was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and won the bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke and a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Hutto Economic Development Corporation is the designated economic development entity for Hutto.  In 2009, the Hutto Economic Development Corporation was named one of only 25 Accredited Economic Development Organizations by the International Economic Development Council.
