He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 2005.

Over his career, Hanson has won a total of 25 medals in major international competition, 18 gold, four silver, and three bronze spanning the Olympics, the World, and the Pan Pacific Championships. He was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and won the bronze medal in the 100-meter breaststroke and a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The Hutto Economic Development Corporation is the designated economic development entity for Hutto.  In 2009, the Hutto Economic Development Corporation was named one of only 25 Accredited Economic Development Organizations by the International Economic Development Council.
