Has the City Council or City Staff addressed the issue that the YMCA will be taking away business from existing Day Cares and Fitness Centers? The YMCA is locating in the same shopping center as the new Anytime Fitness. The Bond Committee also had 5 or 6 members that don't actually live in the city limits and pay city taxes to conveniently help decide that we citizens needed this bond. Two of these committee members that don't live in our city limits have created a Political Action Committee (MoveHutto4ward) to push the citizens to vote yes and increase your taxes. And of which one of those MoveHutto4ward Committee Members also sits on the Board of Directors for the YMCA. Wouldn't these things be considered conflicts of interest? Why did the City Council allow this to happen?

I live in maben, Mississippi, Oktibbeha County, 18 miles west of starkville, and mississippi state University. I have been online reading your newspaper and really enjoy it and will continue to read it. The reason I became interested in the hutto area is that i do family research and learned there is a Ryn Harpole in Hutto who is in a band called Item 84. I have been viewing vidieos of the band and him and his friend and they talk of a concert that will be there sometime this month. I would like to know something about the concert and I am thinking of visiting the city of Hutto.

About your webpage Mr. Phillips. I am a concerned Hutto citizen. Concerned about your website being one sided. How can you say that you only state the “facts” when you have only stated “facts” about a couple of people? What about the rest of the candidates? How do you know for a fact that these things that you are stating about the people you have put on your website are true. You have only heard a few minutes on the subjects at hand at the forum. Have you personally gone to each candidate that you talk about on your webpage and got statements from them to elaborate on what they have said? That forum was uninformative and short. No real issues got answered by anyone. I know I was there. I would suggest before you go and make an uninformed accusation against people you obviously do not know anything about you might want to talk to them and get your information directly from them and give them an opportunity to speak more on the subjects that they had only a couple of minutes to answer on. What I as a Hutto citizen look for in a qualified candidate has nothing to do with past job careers or how long your resume is but instead look for a candidate who is truly concerned about the Hutto citizens and their concerns.

Ms. Slaton, brava! Your comments from the September 24th article "Commission to focus on city’s charter" are exactly what Jeff Phillips was talking about when he used the term "Poisonous Politics" in his recent opinion piece. Thank you for giving such a glowing example of what Mr. Phillips wrote about. Your comments gave so much credibility to Mr. Phillips take on matters in his letter to the editor.

BRAVO Mr. Jeff Phillips!!!! It needed to be said and you did so wonderfully. It was brutally honest, but it has been the "pink elephant" in the room for too long. If certain members of the council and members of our community would spend as much POSITIVE energy as they do NEGATIVE, we would have an amazing flourishing city. The poor city government spends way too much time putting out fires and cleaning up trash that is the byproduct of the destructive behaviors brought to light by Mr. Jeff Phillips.

Brian, once again someone is talking about something they think they know something about, but really have nothing but an opinion. Get the FACTS sir. On another matter, at the city council meeting on 9-11 a former Mayor of Hutto stood up in front of the council and made several comments to the council. Unfortunately the former Mayor has no idea what he's talking about! A comparison of his private business to a city government. Get the FACTS sir. The former Mayor thought so much of his comments he didn't wait around for some explanations to some of his questions. Shame on you. Hutto had 600 residents and one flashing yellow light then, it now has 17000 residents now, how can you compare the two. I used to have quite a bit of respect for this man. I'm no so sure now. I'm a Hutto resident of 20 years.

It would have been nice to see Taylor VS Hutto played each other this year 2008 in the regular football season; especially both teams are having a successful season. I wonder which coach (Taylor or Hutto) did not want to play each other.....

In the most recent Hutto news buried on page 5 is the most recent tax schedule. I hope I am not the only one who picked out the 6 Million dollar loss in tax base probably to overtaxing and weak constraints on budget overflow by the city council. It looks like their idea is to increase the tax rate on us because of the lost tax base (AKA) foreclosures do to an already high tax bracket. Give us remaining Hutto citizens a break and stop raising our taxes. How about accounting for wasting our money on a trip to Africa.
BrianThursday, Aug 07, 2008 (07:08:36 pm CDT)
Before you post completely inaccurate information about Mr. Broussard, please have the decency to thoroughly research the facts. Do you know who picked the "sister city?" Did you know that the person that picked that sister city was the one who planned the trip? Did you know that the person who picked the city and planned the trip was also slated to go? Did you know that the SAME person pulled out at the last minute? Vacation for Mr. Broussard? Not hardly. Have you had the decency to even request a meeting with him to discuss this before you decided to slander him in a public forum? Mr. Broussard is just what this town needs. “Screw the city of Hutto?” Pretty strong words and also amazingly incorrect in addition to being transparently immature. Put your money where your fingers are and sit down and talk with him. I have. After doing so I have made up my OWN mind that the “rumors” from people using tactics such as yours are nothing more than made up nonsense. Ed Broussard is not only a great city manager, but a man of impeccable character. Remember folks, just because it is in print, does not make it true. You have to inform yourself in order to make an informed decision. Don’t be “too busy” to learn the truth.
INFORMED citizenWednesday, Jun 18, 2008 (11:06:13 pm CDT)
Wow, you’re really informed of the facts. How many council meeting have you’re been to? That’s right probably none, because I attend every one and I've never heard anyone speak up about Mr. Broussard. This guy has a job that no matter what he does, someone or some special group with an agenda wont like it. No matter who has this job someone wont be happy and will cry in a forum like this or at the Wag A Bag where the real brain trust of Hutto is. I don’t support this trip but I also didn’t hear one single person get up in front of the council to denounce it either. (including myself) Rather the opposite, people in a small and exclusive group that think the High School mascot is the way to promote our city. That group got their way. Most likely you know that group, say something to them if you don’t like it. That group is really running the city.

How many times does the Ed Broussard, the City Manager, get to screw over the citizens of Hutto? It seems to be as many times as he wants because no one is putting a stop to it. We, the citizens of Hutto, have now paid for his vacation to Africa. Oh I know it is suppose to be part of a so-called “campaign to create a sister-city relationship”, but I am not that stupid and neither are the citizens of Hutto. What this trip is really about is Ed Broussard and Will Guerin getting an “all-expenses-paid” trip to Africa. There is absolutely no proof that this trip will do anything to bring new business to Hutto or improve the community as a whole. The $10,000 being spent on this trip could have been utilized to help bring a fitness center to Hutto, make improvements to the new library, aiding the effort to keep a new substation and transmission lines out of Hutto, or even toward developing real plans for bringing new business to Hutto. But it seems that Ed Broussard felt that we, the citizens of Hutto, owed him a vacation to Africa instead. Wonder why he feels he has even earned that? Do we have a grocery store? No. Forest Creek got that when HEB took over the old Albertsons location instead. Do we have a community pool and/or fitness facility with the YMCA? No, but Taylor and Round Rock both have those facilities for their citizens. Do we see a real improvement to the City sign ordinances? No. We have a committee “working” on it with members that have no idea what they are actually working on fixing. Do we have a community center? No. According to Ed Broussard there is simply not enough demand or money in the budget for such a facility, but there was enough money there for his African vacation. I could go on, but why bother? It is painfully obvious to a growing number of citizens that the City Manager, Mayor and City Council are totally out of touch with the community they serve, but too many of residents of Hutto seem to be too “busy” to care. So I guess we get what we deserve don’t we?

c.p.s and letting people know (hutto and taylor) I just wanted people to know if C.P.S ever knocks at your door for the littlest thing HIRE A ATTORNEY! DO NOT TALK TO THEM AT ALL! My girlfriend did nothing wrong they came out lied, made up stories told people things that were not true, lied to the children, then they made her do all this crap and then bullied her and took her kids off of her and finally we went to a attorney that stated we should of came to him in the begining and now it is gonna cost us roughly 3 to 5000 dollars to fight them to get her kids back! Again I know it is hard to believe but she did not do anything wrong. She complied with everything they told her to do they even closed the case and another branch re opened the case and took her kids 2 weeks there is a hearing and she has to pay 3 to 5000 dollars for an atty which she will get her kids back but wtf all that money could of went to the kids....... So Please if you know anyone and they state cps was talking to them tell them to quit talking to them they are trying to build a case to take your children off of you and they lie and twist things around in their story to take your kids off of you. Please also if anyone knows a good lawyer that might cost less let us know. We are not signing this lawyer on till Tuesday morning. We have 1k up front and more as we work. If anyone knows a paper or news reporter please direct them our way also. We have emailed every reporter from Austin to Georgetown so (fingers crossed). If anyone would like to help us with atty fees email us. My name is Mark and my gf name is Stephany. Our email address is markjabout@yahoo.com. Please no rude or bashing emails. We have enough stress as it is I just thought other people in Austin would like to know and pass the message on. Message being If C.P.S ever contacts you or a friend and wants to talk etc. Tell them no and hire a atty the atty told us that all of this crap we are dealing with would have been avoided if we would have told them to screw off and hired an atty. So please pass the message on. C.P.S. is liers, bullies and cheaters. They are taking children off the wrong parents.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Again we have contacted many many reporters but maybe you know of one that would be interested? Do you know of a church that could help with our legal fee¡¦s???? Let us know please and thank you. Let us know also anyone that has been a victim to C.P.S contact us (of course you have to have proof that they were completely wrong) Maybe the power of many will get cps to back off good parents. A lot of people and the media could expose them.
