Library director doing great job

To the editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize Yasmeen Jehangir for the wonderful job she is doing at the Hutto Public Library. She has turned the old fire station into a bustling center of activity.

My daughter and I have been delighted by the performances during the Summertime Reading Program. Yasmeen has been able to bring in the top children’s performers in the area. And, despite the less-than-ideal conditions in the unfinished portion of the library, she has been able to attract 100-plus children to each of the events.

It is obvious that Hutto was in need of a public library and that the residents appreciate having one. She also has half of her currently catalogued collection in circulation. That is over 3,000 items in circulation at a time. And she has many more books in the collection that are ready to be catalogued.

During this budgeting season I am hopeful that the city is mindful of these numbers and recognizes the need for additional funding/staffing and finished space to grow this wonderful and much needed program.

Thank you Yasmeen for your hard work and dedication!
