Hutto High School athletes went above and beyond this Spring 2008 season, garnering six district championships, a state contender in track, a number of All-District selections and to date have played in seven playoff games between basketball, baseball and softball.
Coaches presided over their sport, announcing a “110 percent” award and a MVP selection. With teammates selecting the awards, many sports chose co-selections, since many “had the talent and ability to give 110 percent,” according to girls basketball coach Norma Sierra.
The “110 percent” selections this season were Ilissa Riley-Jaggers, a member of the girls golf team; Grant Pierre, a senior on the powerlifting team; Cecilia Rocha, a member of the tennis team; Brittney Drolette, of the girls track team; Anthony Felderhoff, a freshman on the boys track team; Adam Marion, a member of the boys basketball team; Cortney Henderson, of the girls basketball team; and Shelby Wahrmund of the softball team. Since the baseball team is still in the playoffs, no selections were announced.
The MVP selections were Dalton Burch, of the boys golf team; Corey Taylor and Pierre, of the powerlifting team; Robert Smith, of the tennis team, Cortney Henderson and Chelsy Covington of the girls track team; Marion, of the boys track team; Elgyn Chandler and Thomas Orr of the boys basketball team; Abi Tammen of the girls basketball team; and Tammen and Kelsi Weseman of the softball team. Baseball selections were not announced.
The Booster Club also awarded Brandon Boykin and Garrett Carey each with $750 scholarships. |
